Today Airport security is as high as ever. Body scanners are a common thing to expect now every time you travel via plane but people still object and resent this because to them its an “invasion of privacy.” The majority of people feel that they are needed for safety precautions but at the same time they feel very uncomfortable going through them. Then there’s the other majority of Americans who feel extremely offended and will object to these safety procedures all together. They makeup excuses and reasons as to why body scanners are the wrong choice of action to take when it comes to keeping our country safe. They proclaim it’s flawed but the truth is there isn’t one method or thing in the world that isn’t flawed!
The main issue that people have with body scanners is the “Invasion of Privacy”. They feel as if they are naked and vulnerable when going through them. I would like to say this is so obscene! I know for a fact that most Americans have been to the beach at some point in their life and have worn a bathing suit. So how can you feel embarrassed when all that they are seeing is your bone structure? Really they just choose the most convenient excuse when it comes to an activity that regards time and is not a whole lot fun.
Another issue some Americans have with body scanners is the big rumor going around that it emits radiations, which can in due time give you cancer or any other form of health problems. Well I will say it has been proven in studies that some body scanners emit a small amount of radiation when passing through them but for it to be deadly you’d have to go through it everyday. People take this to the extreme and feel as if there life is being endangered upon going through them but another fact is a majority of Americans already do stuff that endangers their lives. Driving while texting, smoking, drinking while driving, etc. All of these are consensual acts that Americans do everyday and they benefit no one! The body scanners are here to prevent huge catastrophes from happing to overall protect Americans and give them a newfound sense of comfort. But instead most of us are taking this the wrong way and too ignorant to see the good in it.
Finally the main issue dealing with body scanners is being way too damn proud. “I’m a good American and I feel like scanning me is plain ridiculous because I’m not a threat!” I see the truth in this but sadly we cannot say that that for everyone. Once a good amount of people are given the possibility of not having to go through a scanner a flood stream of others will follow and in those will be one that IS a threat. So really can you chose to not go through a scanner and endanger others or can you overcome your pride and prove yourself as a good American by walking through a scanner? Don’t let some trivial emotion get the better of you and have you judge a procedure that helps protect the ones around you.
